Brussels Sprouts with Garlic and Lemon

Coupling garlic with lemon may sound weird at first, but they go along very well together with Brussels sprouts

Ingredients

  • Brussels sprouts: 1 kg
  • Garlic cloves: 5
  • Lemon: 1/2 (generous)
  • Gruyère cheese: 3-4 tablespoons (grated)

Direction

  1. Clean the Brussels sprouts by removing the tough stem and the outer layer of leaves.
  2. Cut the Brussels sprouts in half, pour oil into a pan over medium-high heat, and add the sprouts.
  3. Sauté them for about 15-20 minutes, gradually adding a little hot water (adding the minced garlic halfway through cooking) until the outer part is caramelized brown and the inside is soft and fully cooked.
  4. Reduce the heat to low and add lemon zest, lemon juice, salt, and pepper. Stir to combine the ingredients.
  5. Adjust the seasoning if necessary, then add the cheese and cook for another minute or two before serving.
